Potin-Ziro road in quagmire

ITANAGAR, Sep 27: Even after Union Minister of state for road, transport and highway (MoRTH) Mansukh L Mandaviya promised in Ziro that repair of Potin-Ziro will be taken up soon while announcing an amount of Rs 10 crore for maintenance of Potin to Bopi stretch; work is yet to be started as officials of his ministry are still struggling with the estimate.
"As the said stretch of road belongs to MoRTH, their engineers are preparing estimate. After that tender will be done and then only repairing work will start," informed Chief Engineer, Highway, Bora Ete. Further, he added that till the compensation issues are resolved, the work for Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH) will not start.
"Ministry has made it clear that land compensation costing Rs one crore per kilometer will not be accepted. DC Lower Subansiri is supposed to submit compensation claims at the earliest for approval so that work can be started from winter onwards," added CE.
State PWD handed over the stretch of road to MoRTH as part of Trans Arunachal Highway. However, due to land acquisition problem, the ministry has refused to start the work. Ministry has twice rejected the compensation estimate submitted for the stretch between Potin and Bopi claiming that it was too high.
When contacted Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen informed that district administration will submit the final reassessment amount to ministry this month.
Earlier Rs 600 crore was submitted to ministry for compensation which was out rightly rejected as it was deemed too high. After minimizing the total amount, the district administration had resent the claims amounting to Rs 463 crore but the ministry rejected it again on the ground of exorbitant rate.
The total stretch of road is 157 KM from Potin to Bopi which falls under Lower Subansiri district.
The Government of India's compensation rate is Rs 1 crore per kilometer; however DC stated it is not applicable in Lower Subansiri, as most of the structures are near roadside.
"If we dismantle road side structures, we have to compensate them immediately, as many families have no other place to go" Lollen added. He further disclosed that compensations for Yazali and Yachuli townships are estimated at Rs 12 crore each.
"The state government doesn't have formula to downsize the rate," DC said.
Meanwhile, the pathetic condition of Potin-Ziro road is posing serious threats to the lives of motorists. At several places, the road is on the verge of collapse. The road is strategically very important and is lifeline for the people of Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts.
At the pace the issue pertaining to land acquisition is moving, it appears that there is no immediate relief in sight for the users of Potin-Ziro road. The motorists will have to trust their driving skills and not the road to reach home safely.
MP calls for ‘regional’ approach on water and sanitation
ITANAGAR, Sep 26: Member of Parliament Ninong Ering urged Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh to take regional approach on the issue of Water and Sanitation for better management.
"Water management has been a crucial aspect for the state of Arunachal Pradesh, and every year, we face the problem related to water and its management," the MP said in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister. He urged for creation of Office of Chief Engineer, PHE and WS for central zone comprising of four districts of Siang Valley with its headquarters at Pasighat.
"This move will not cause any extra burden to the exchequer. Rather it will accelerate the process of smooth working of water management in the state," the letter said.
Ering also urged the CM to push for the smart city approval to help Pasighat achieve the status soon.
Govt. sanctions Rs.30 lakh for Mechukha flood victims
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The State Government has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh as immediate relief for the flood affected people of Mechukha and restoration of damages.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu sanctioned the amount after a discussion with Disaster Management Minister Takam Pario on Tuesday evening.
While expressing concern over the reported flash flood in Mechukha valley, Pema appealed to the people living in vulnerable places like river banks and landslide prone areas to exercise extreme caution to avoid any untoward incident.
Heavy downpour in Mechukha on Sunday caused Tamdeling River to burst its banks which flooded half of the town damaging several houses and badly affecting roads and water supply.
The chief minister instructed the concern department and Local Administration to assess the properties lost or damaged in the flashflood and submit the findings to the government.
He lauded Mechukha Administration and the people for voluntarily contributing and joining the social service to construct the embankment along the river at vulnerable places.
"The Government will always stand by you, but you have to stand up for yourself first during such difficult times," he added. (PRO, CMO)
Naharlagun transformer burnt
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The power supply of D- sector, C-sector and Pachin colony area under Naharlagun town has been disrupted due to burning down of power transformer of Naharlagun substation. The substation feeds power to whole D- sector area including important office like Directorate of Account, High Court premise, state guest house, Directorate of Administrative Training Institute, directorate of agriculture and horticulture and official residential area of officers.
Power supply will also be disrupted in isolated areas of C- sector and Pachin colony area of Naharlagun town. In a release Ajay Murtem, Executive Engineer (E), Naharlagun Electrical Division informed that department have initiated prompt action by providing power supply on rotation basis and immediate action for restoration of power supply have been initiated. He has made fervent appeal to the consumers and public to cooperate with the department till its restoration.
Shooting range soon
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The Arunachal State Rifle Association (ASRA) will establish its first indoor 10 and 25 Meter Shooting Range in Itanagar. This will be done to tap the vast potential of shooting skill amongst the youth of the state and to promote and popularize shooting as a major sports in Arunachal.
A delegation of ASRA led by its President Michal Pangin met Chief Minister Pema Khandu in his chamber on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by parliamentary secretary for tourism P D Sona, who is also the Chief Advisor of ASRA. Tezu MLA Dr. Mahesh Chai, who is also an ardent shooting enthusiast, was also present in the meeting. He impressed upon Chief Minister to strengthen the ASRA's efforts.
Quality healthcare for adolescent boys & girls: NHM Director
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: National Health Mission, Mission Director, P.N Thungon emphasized on the need for educating adolescent boys and girls on quality healthcare covering all health components including health, hygiene and vitamin supplements etc. He further said that the health workers also need to be educated and made aware for successful implementation of various health programmes.
He was addressing a workshop on mother & child health organized by the directorate of field publicity for the district field publicity (DFP) officials here on Tuesday.
While highlighting on various health programmes of the government, Thungon urged officials of all line departments to work collectively to ensure maximum outreach of the awareness campaigns.
DFP Director, Dr. HR Keshavamurthy in his address informed the DFPs that the Directorate of Field Publicity under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has evolved a media plan for awareness campaign on mother & child health. He further said that the objective of the campaign which is proposed to be launched for nine months during 2016-17 with 900 awareness programmes to be organized in village clusters across the country is to increase awareness regarding the specific themes.
Women & Child Development, Joint Director also briefed about various women and children welfare schemes of the department like 'Beti bachao, Beti padhao', Kishori shakti' etc targeted at educating adolescent girl child.
Maternal & Child Health, Nodal officer, Dr. Tana Natung with the help of a power point presentation highlighted in details on the importance of ante-natal care and post-natal care for expecting mothers which is necessary to reduce maternal death and infant mortality rate.
He also called upon the Field Publicity Officers to take up the matter in a holistic way and create awareness among the people at grassroots level.

Benefits of tourism must reach to all: PD Sona
YUPIA, Sep 27: "Benefits of tourism must reach all and everyone has the right to access tourism services in any part of the world," parliamentary secretary Tourism PD Sona said referring to this year's theme of World Tourism Day 'Tourism for all-promoting Universal Accessibility'. He said this during world tourism day celebration at Railway Station, Naharlagun premises on Tuesday.
Calling upon everyone to maintain cleanliness and tourist friendly atmosphere to promote tourism in the state, he said that environmental concern is equally connected to tourism and more emphasis must be given to promote eco tourism.
"Tourism not only gives financial benefits but it also creates job opportunities for unemployed youths, every effort must be made to increase more awareness on advantages and development of tourism," Sona said further appealing people to keep their surroundings clean and hygienic and maintain good hospitality.
He later flagged off Arunachal Bullet Club team which is on a tour to different parts of the state to create awareness on tourism promotion.
Tourism Secretary Joram Beda urged people to maintain cleanliness in all public locations especially in Railway Station saying it is entry point for guests from outside the state.
The programme was followed by a mass cleanliness and plantation drive to mark the day.
Sona along with Secretary Tourism, Director Tourism Karma Leki, officers, staffs, public and representatives from Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators' Association (APTOA) planted saplings alongside the road leading to the Railway Station.
The waste bags were also distributed among the taxi operators arranged by APTOA. Meanwhile, participating in a programme at Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing & Visually Impaired, Sona encouraged the differently abled children to learn as much as they can from the school and try to do something good for the state in future.
He contributed Rs two lakh to the school.

Afghanistan Vignettes - I

Life has a way of throwing up surprises, and one such unexpected road which took my life unaware was my posting to Afghanistan. In a hindsight it was a wonderful experience, but living that experience was completely a different song. As one of many aids, Indian government is providing to fledgling Afghanistan government, road from Zaranj to Delaram (215KM) was also taken up by India. Border Roads Organisation was entrusted with this job. I went there and stayed for two years and came back during November 2007.
I landed up at Kabul Airport on 25th October 2005. The winter was setting in and whip of cold wind played with my unkempt hair as I stepped out of Airport. The birds view of town surrounded by barren hills, reminded me of Kathmandu Valley which I had visited as a college student with my just married wife. Kabul Airport itself reminded me of our old Ziro Airport. Only difference was that it had pot holes near the edges of runway and number of bombed Aircrafts lay scattered all over, like broken toy airplanes in my children's room.As we slowly piled up in front of immigration counter, people at the counter looked at my passport and at me, and scrutinized my face to a point of embarrassment. They repeated it for sometime and took me to a different room. They refused to believe I was an Indian and put my pass port to scrutiny again and again. Only after I showed my disquiet and showed Ministry of External Affairs letter to Afghanistan Embassy, did they let me through ever so reluctantly.
Next morning I flew down to a place called Zaranj in a eight seater small plane. Weather was clear and sky was deep blue stretching far into the universe. Down below, there was not a whip of cloud. I could fill my eyes with awesome landscapes. As we crossed mountain range after mountain range, in a two hours flight to Zaranj, not a forest was seen. The mountains looked dark and barren which reminded me much about surface of Mars and other planets we see in science fiction movies.
Landing at Zaranj was totally different experience. The runway was not metaled and it was laid with small stone chips. I had the childish fear that one of that stones might pierce the tyre and it would burst. Nonetheless, it landed safely and I experienced the most wonderful flight I have ever flown.
Zaranj is the capital of Nimroz Province and the city centre is hardly half a mile from Iran border. This is one of the remotest part of Afghanistan. I suppose it should rank among the remotest in the world. The whole of province has not had any metaled road in history. There is a huge market for second hand four wheel SUV as all the journey is a cross country run through the desert. There is no system of vehicle registration and driving license. So all the vehicles have the registration numbers of previous country and owner.
There were no banks existing when I landed in Zaranj. People kept their money with money lenders. There is a money market where various currencies are sold and bought. Currencies of various countries are kept piled up on the shelves and people come and purchase as we buy vegetables from vegetable market in India. It was something very new to me and I took some time to understand the system. Iran currency i.e rial and thuman is the prevalent medium of exchange, although US dollar is also favored by many. Afganistan Govt has introduced Afghani currency and DA Afghan Bank. But people hardly showed their faith in Afghani currency or DA Afghan Bank. They still prefer to keep their money with money lenders and hold foreign currencies. There are no cultivable lands nor any industry, but God has blessed them with acumen for money management. Afghans are very good business men.
Security was a big issue. Although Taliban Government had fallen two years back, it was resurfacing in this part of Afghanistan with much more vigor and determination. Within twenty days of my joining, one of our men from Kerala was kidnapped and beheaded. Many a time our people used to be ambushed on the road sides. There was a constant fear stalking us whenever we moved outside. Every vehicle we passed by was viewed as a potential suicide jihadist. There were times at night when one would watch rockets falling around the camp with total despondency. These were moments of helplessness. We lost number of our own people and also Afghani soldiers who were guarding us to our enemies. It reminds me of old adage " There are no atheists in a cornered place." Everybody thought of their maker in such situations.
I came back to India towards the end of November 2007. Today, the road stands completed and the remotest place in Afghanistan stands connected to the rest of Afghanistan .
Afghani People are warm and hospitable, but have that trait of short temper which comes in a package with honesty and simplicity.

Create tourist friendly environment: DC
AALO, Sep 27: West Siang Deputy Commissioner Gamli Padu called for creating tourist friendly environment in West Siang to woo tourists.
Saying that tourism has emerged as one of the fastest growing industries and sources of sustenance to many countries and states, Padu emphasized on hospitality and tourism management for growth of the sector. He urged people to display hospitality and show respect to all visitors.
He was addressing the World Tourism Day celebration at his conference Hall here on Tuesday.
Padu also stressed the need for identification of important tourist places in the district with proper route and transportations and encouragement of home-stays to attract more tourists.
The DC hinted at regulating basic amenities in Sumo counters, home stays, hotels. He asked the DTO to prepare a calendar of events, routes, contact numbers and tourist destinations for the benefit of tourists.
ADTH Teresa Padu emphasized on promotion of traditional handicrafts and weaves through tourism.
Resource person DFO Nyali Ete, rued lack of open spaces and recreational places at district headquarter Aalo.
District Tourism Officer Rita Yorung highlighted about tourism prospects and activities in the district and stressed on promoting universal accessibility, health and hygiene to promote tourism.
ZPM Tumpe Ete, Director RCCN Liduk Ete, representatives of Sumo Services and hotel owners also shared useful tips for promotion of tourism in the districts, reports DIPRO.

Department of Travel and Tourism Management of RGGP, Itanagar celebrated World Tourism day with theme "Tourism for all- promoting universal accessibility".
The faculties, staff and students of Tourism Department organized cleanliness drive cum awareness campaign at Biological Park and Gyakar Senyi, to mark the occassion.
The students and faculties interacted with the tourists and officials about the importance and role of tourism in area development.
The celebration helped the students learn about the various aspects of tourism.

Reliance offers digital empowerment to Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: Reliance has offered to 'join hands' with the state government for 'digital empowerment' of the state.
State Head, Reliance Jio Sunjoy Sur, in a meeting with Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office here on Tuesday explained that Jio is ready to cooperate with the state in offering wi-fi services in government establishments like schools, colleges, offices and institutes besides creating wi-fi hotspots in places most frequented by people.
Sunjoy Sur along with R K Sharma (State SCO), Jibesh Biswas (Jio Centre Manager) and Adam Maro (Project Manager) on Tuesday called on the CM and gave him details of Jio 4G services and the company's plan for its expansion across Arunachal Pradesh.
Khandu appreciated Reliance Jio for launching its operations in the state and said that going by the revolution in 'digitalization' brought about by its services that offer free voice calls, sms services and roaming besides excellent data speed is a boon for Arunachal Pradesh. He requested the network provider to expand its services to rural areas too.
On behalf the state government, Khandu welcomed the launching of Jio services and assured logistical support and cooperation. "This is another important step towards 'Digital India' goal of the Prime Minister of India," he observed. The Chief Minister asked the state Information Technology Secretary, who was also present during the call-on, to coordinate and extend support wherever needed.
Sur informed the Chief Minister that at present Jio has established its centres at Itanagar and Pasighat while plans are afoot to launch Jio services at all district headquarters soon. He said survey have been already done to study feasibility of offering services at places like Tawang too.
The Jio official further informed that through its 'fibre to home' connectivity three services - wi-fi, TV and landline - will be made available to subscribers in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Reliance team formally handed over a letter from Reliance head Mukesh Ambani to the Chief Minister.
Rally held to mark Swachh Bharat Week
ITANGAR, Sep 27: As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the PHED and Water Supply Department Namsai Division, organized a rally to mark the Swachh Bharat Week, which was flagged off by Parliamentary Secretary for Planning, Zingnu Namchoom on Tuesday.
NSS volunteers, officers, Panchayat leaders, market secretaries and PHED staffs took part in the rally which began from GHSS to Old Bazar.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, MLA-cum-Parliamentary Secretary lauded the flagship programme being launched by the GoI on 2nd October, 2014 being the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, envisaging dreams for making the nation open defecation free till 2nd October 2019 commemorating the 150th Birth anniversary of Father of the Nation.
He further stressed the need for maintaining cleanliness in every colony of the township by conducting social services once in a week by market committee, local administration and panchayat leaders respectively. He also appealed to all the denizens of the township as well as the Panchayat leaders and public to keep the district, clean and open defecation free.
Training on Oil Palm technology
PASIGHAT, Sep 27: More than 50 farmers from Mebo, Pasighat, Sille, Oyan, Bilat and Ruksin blocks participated in a two days District Level Training Programme on 'transfer of technology of Oil Palm Cultivation' at Samiti Hall, GTC here recently.
Resource persons from Agriculture and Officers from the Oil Palm Developer, M/s. Ruchi Soya imparted training on various know-hows and methods of Palm Oil cultivation.
District Nodal Officer Opang Moyong during technical session covered the entire packages of practices and also share his experience of Oil Palm training and fields visited in India and Malaysia.
Asking the farmers to make arrangement for Irrigation during upcoming winter season, by utilizing Water Harvesting Structure subsidy from the Govt, he guided them on how to construct the structure to obtain the subsidies.
Deputy Director Y J Lego in her deliberation hoped that East Siang district till now covered about 120 Ha under Oil Palm, further around 800 Ha Seedlings will be available from January-2017, for continuous planting. She also advised the farmers to adopt the right techniques to get desirable yield and profits, which Oil Palm gives- sustainable yields for the next 25 to 30years.

ITANAGAR, Sep 27: Cocktail United defeated MRF XI by 9 wickets in a second day match of the 20th Bengia Takam Memorial T20 Tournament 2016 at Yazali on Tuesday.
MRF XI set a moderate target of 87 runs, which the Cocktail riding on Hage Robin`s 38 runs chased down with ease losing one wicket.
In the second match, Govt. Yachuli College defeated Calypso Club of Yazali by 6 wickets with Chukhu Peter top scoring for the Yachulians with 26 runs.

GHSS Hija to represent Arunachal in Subroto Cup
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The football team of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Hija, Lower Subansiri representing Arunachal Pradesh left for New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in the 57th International Subroto Cup Football Tournament (U-17 boys).
Arunachal Pradesh will play their first match against Jharkhand on October 4, second match against TAFS on October 5 and third match against Tamil Nadu on October 6. The team will play its fourth and fifth match against Sainik School and Goa on October 7 and 8 respectively.
Govt. Higher Secondary School, Hija became champion of the 4th State Level Subroto Mukerjee Cup Football Tournament beating West Siang in the final held during January-February this year in Pasighat.
The team is sponsored by the Department of Secondary Education, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
There are a total of 46 teams participating in the tournament of which 10 teams are from Brazil, USA, Chille, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan.
The team was given three months intensive coaching under the guidance of Coach Pura Talo and Team Manager Pura Taji.
Meanwhile, the Director of Secondary Education Gania Leij, in a briefing session, advised the team to be disciplined, follow the instruction of coach and manager and bring laurels to the state by showcasing their talents in such prestigious International football tournament.

Physical Education Dept. lift University Soccer League
ITANAGAR, Sep 26: Department of Physical Education lifted the maiden University Soccer League (USL) trophy defeating Science-XI 4-1 in the final at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) football ground on Monday.
Morge Diyum from the Department of Chemistry was adjudged the "Player of the Tournament", while Charu Okam from Department of Management was adjudged as the "Best Goalkeeper." Amos Ronrang of Department of Zoology became the "Highest Scorer" of the tournament.
The award for "Best Discipline team" was bagged by the Department of Political Science.
The prizes, including trophies, medals, cash award and citations were given away by the Deputy Registrar and patron of the tournament Dr. David Pertin, Assistant Professors Dr. Anil Mili, Tajen Dabi, Dr. Anup Kumar Das, Dr. Oyi Dai and Dr. Rojeet Singh and RGUSU president Tania Tagia.
Among others, the chairman of the club Dr. Gibji Nimasow, Secretary David Gao and Joint secretary Rajesh Prasad also spoke on the occasion.
Attending the valedictory function, RGU's Registrar Prof. Rachob Taba and Finance Officer in-charge Prof Amitava Mitra exhorted the participants to be active in sports, while underscoring the importance of sports in University life.

23 acres of cannabis plantation destroyed
ITANAGAR, Sep 26: A joint team of Narcotics Control Board (NCB), state police, SSB personnel and Kalaktang administration destroyed around 23 acres of Cannabis plantation in and around Kalaktang subdivision during its phase of operation carried out from September 24.
The second phase of the drive against illicit Ganja cultivation will be carried out from September 28, informed Kalaktang Circle Officer Tsering Pentsom.
Govt. Model Degree College inaugurated at Wessang
SEPPA, Sep 26: The Government Model Degree College was inaugurated at Wessang on Monday by the Parliamentary Secretary for Tax & Excise, Tapuk Taku.
Terming the day as a historic, Tapuk Taku appreciated the land donors for their immense contribution in the establishment of the college. He further lauded the college faculties for working hard with limited facilities.
Stating that CM Pema Khandu accords top priority to education sector, he assured that the grievances of the college will be resolved soon. Responding to the memorandum submitted by the students' union of the college, he assured to take up the matter with the higher authority.
He also directed the EE PWD, Seppa Division to assess and prepare an estimate for construction of chain linked fencing around the girls' hostel.

Training on pig farming
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak in collaboration with Eastern Regional Station (ERS), ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Kalyani organized one day programme on pig rearing for tribal farmers of Yewang village under ‘Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav’ on September 27, wherein the farmers were enlightened about economic benefits of pig rearing and use of conventional and unconventional food stuff for profitable pig rearing.
Director, ICAR - NRC on Yak Dr. SM Deb spoke on issues involved with economic development of tribal community and the importance of pig rearing to improve rural economy.
To promote pig rearing as profitable venture, 30 farmers were selected and trained to build pig house using local resources.
Each farmer was provided with 5 piglets--4 female and 1 male--for breeding purpose, concentrate ration for proper growth of the animals, vitamin supplements required for proper maintenance of the animals and Tarpaulin for supplementing better housing system.
Later, the team of experts both from ERS, ICAR - NDRI, Kalyani and ICAR - NRC on Yak, Dirang visited beneficiaries' house to evaluate the farming condition of the tribal farmers of Yewang village.
Painting competition on disaster risk preparedness
TAWANG, Sep 27: A District level painting competition on the theme 'Disaster Risk Preparedness' was organized at DC's Conference Hall here on Tuesday for the children between age group of 6 and 10 years and 10 and 15 years.
Manash Jyoti Burman of Kendriya Vidyalaya won the first prize while Lobsang Choigney of Bomba Secondary school and Aman Singh of Kendriya Vidyalaya secured second and third position respectively in the Senior Category.
In the junior category, Phurpa Gombu of BCEF Primary School (Lumla) became the winner. Second and third position were bagged by Tenzin Norbu of Shyo Middle School and Lobsang Monlam of Kremethang Middle School respectively.
DC Sang Phuntsok, gave away cash prizes amounting to Rs.5000, Rs. 3000 and Rs.2000 to the first, second and third position holders in each category respectively.
The three selected paintings of the senior category would be sent to the State Disaster Management authority for state level competition, winners of which would further get to participate in the national level competition. (DIPRO)
'Release enhanced salary'
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has demanded for early release of enhanced salary of casual labourers of Forest Corporation Limited.
In its memorandum submitted to the chief minister, the union also called for release of arrears of the casual labourers in the department pending since 2014.
Meeting on data entry of updated NPR
HAWAI, Sep 27: Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba in a meeting with all the charge officers and enumerators reviewed the task of data entry of updated NPR book in Hawai and Hayuliang in view of the frequent interruption in power supply and internet connectivity coupled with communication bottle neck.
Nodal Officer for NPR Database updation R Mele imparted training to Charge officers on uploading Consolidated Summary Sheet of updated NPR booklet and online appointment of Data Entry Operators (DHOs).

Youths allege unfair selection of D-grade staffs
TEZU, Sep 27: Claiming that there was unfair selection of D-grade medical staffs under District Medical officer (DMO), Tezu, a peaceful procession was organized on Monday by Wakro Unemployed Youths at Wakro.
Recruitment process was stage managed without following recruitment rules or procedures, the youths in a release said.
"The mismanagement was evident from the initial stages itself as the written test was fixed for August 28, the Viva Voce for August 29. However, the day of Viva voce was shifted for September 5 on the day Written Test was held by notifying it on the blackboard of examination hall. We fail to understand why such changes were made", it said.
"Further discrepancies were seen in the list of qualified candidates that were made just a day before the Viva Voce," it alleged further adding that out of the 46 posts taken up for Viva Voce selection process, approximately 27 candidates from Wakro had appeared of which only two got selected. This indicates gross injustices to the unemployed youths of Wakro.
APCA members attend Catholic Union annual conference
ITANAGAR, Sep 27: A thirteen-member team of Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association attended a three-day long All India Catholic Union annual conference which concluded at Kolkata on Sunday last.
The meeting attended by representatives from all states of the country was inaugurated by MP Derrick O'Brien. It was attended among others by West Bengal Minister of Tourism, Gautam Deb, Member, Minority Affairs, GoI, Dr. John Dayal, Archbishop of Kolkata, Thomas D'Souza, Usha Uthup and Sister Prema, the successor of Mother Teresa.
During the three-day conference, Tok Buttum, National Secretary for North East and Taw Tebin, State President, AICU were also presented meritorious service awards for outstanding contribution in the field of Catholic lay leadership.
Dept clarifies
Seppa, Sep 27: Reacting to allegation of misappropriation of fund by ARTIAF in the construction of SPT Mortuary at Seppa, the work agency Rural Works Department (RWD) clarified that there has been no misappropriation of fund amounting to Rs. 10. 17 Lakhs sanctioned for the aforementioned work.
"Due to public obstruction the proposed site i.e. District Hospital Complex for the construction of the same was shifted with due approval from competent authority vide File No.MDEV-12/2010-11 dated 22/12/2011. Accordingly, it was constructed adjoining Old TB ward and the same was officially handed over to the concerned department after due completion work vide No.SRWD/Sch/12-13/dated 20th Feb'2013," the department clarified. India, China hold 1st high-level dialogue to combat terror
BEIJING, Sep 27: India and China today discussed ways to enhance security and cooperation to combat terror as officials from the two sides exchanged information on policies and legislation to deal with terrorism at the first high-level dialogue where they reached "important consensus".
The two sides exchanged views on the international and regional security situation at the first meeting of the India- China High Level Dialogue on Counter-terrorism and Security held here.
The meeting was co-chaired by R N Ravi, Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee and Wang Yongqing, Secretary General of Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of China.
They exchanged information on respective policies, systems and legislation to deal with terrorism, and further enhance their understanding on issues of major concerns to both sides, according to a press release issued by the Indian embassy here.
"The two sides had in-depth discussions on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism and security and on measures to jointly deal with security threats and reached important consensus in this regard," the release said without elaborating. PTI
